Counselors understand that the profession of counseling may no longer be limited to face-to-face interactions. They understand the evolving nature of the profession with regard to distance counseling, technology, and social media and how resources may be used to better serve their clients. Counselors understand concerns related to the use of distance counseling, technology, and social media and make every attempt to protect confidentiality and meet legal and ethical requirements for the use of such resources. • Knowledge and legal considerations • Laws and statutes
The ACA Governing Council approved these policies and procedures in 2005, and they were revised July 31, 2020. The ACA’s directives for processing complaints of alleged viola- tions, and resolving an ethical complaint, are detailed and extensive. This course includes a summary as follows, and the complete ACA policies and procedures should be downloaded and reviewed at https://www.counseling.org/docs/default- source/bylaws-and-policies/aca-policies-procedures-9-2022.pdf.
