Audience This course is designed for dental professionals who would benefit from enhanced knowledge of healthcare-associated infections. Course Objective The purpose of this course is to provide dental professionals with an updated review of healthcare-associated infections, including evidence-based guidelines, strategies for prevention, and selection of appropriate treatment options. Leonard, MD , Professor of Medicine Emeritus, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, completed his post- graduate clinical training at the Yale and Vanderbilt University Medical Centers before joining the Vanderbilt faculty in 1974. He is a clinician-educator and for many years served as director of residency training and student educational programs for the Vanderbilt University Department of Medicine. Over a career span of 40 years, Dr. Leonard conducted an active practice of general internal medicine and an inpatient consulting practice of infectious diseases. Identify the most common pathogens and risk factors associated with catheter-related urinary tract infections, and outline the appropriate prevention measures, means of diagnosis, and treatment. 7. List the most common pathogens and causes of surgical site infections, and develop a strategy for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. 8. Define the most common pathogens and risk factors associated with healthcare-associated pneumonia, and devise appropriate measures for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. 9.
