This course focuses on an overview of human trafficking; how human trafficking occurs; ways to identify those who may be trafficked, including the health and mental health impact; response and safety protocols; and victim resources. It meets the one-hour Texas requirement for healthcare professional Chapter 2: Massage Therapy for Sports Injuries [4 CE hours] This course is designed to familiarize massage therapists with the techniques most commonly used to treat sports injuries, the general terminology associated with sports injuries, the most common sports injuries, the anatomy and physiology involved, and the sports each injury is usually associated with. The course also reviews several tips for helping athletes avoid specific injuries. In several instances, learners will discover that massage therapy is contraindicated given the specifics of an athlete’s condition. Chapter 3: Musculoskeletal Assessment and Treatment for Manual Therapists [2 CE hours] Pain stemming from muscle, tendon, or ligament injuries often brings with it a myriad of accompanying symptoms, including weakness, restricted movement, and structural imbalances. In the realm of manual therapy, practitioners are tasked with assessing and addressing these soft tissue dysfunctions to alleviate pain and restore optimal function. This course delves into the intricate art of soft tissue differential diagnosis, equipping manual therapists with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively diagnose and treat musculoskeletal ailments. Chapter 4: Polypharmacy: Impact and Effects [3 CE hours] This intermediate-level course will explore the realities for people taking multiple medications, mostly older adults. Medication management is a challenge that can have impact on physical and mental health. Inadvertent misuse of medication can not only affect the individual, but also the caregiver, and the greater community. It is important that all healthcare providers gain insight into this challenge to understand the effects of polypharmacy, the impact on disease management, and effects it can have on treatment plans and long-term recovery. Content includes aspects of multimorbidity, disease-specific polypharmacy issues, insight into hyperpolypharmacy, effects [3 CE hours] The purpose of this course is to identify the five social determinants of health (SDOH) for healthcare professionals; recognize the impact of social determinants on chronic disease, cancer, and COVID-19; and evaluate methods to decrease healthcare disparities at the patient level, practice level, and community level.
