The successful technician can meet the needs of the client, stay current with trends, maintain a safe working environment and provide services that leave the client healthy and happy. This can all be accomplished if the technician stays informed about the chemicals in the products used; OSHA, FDA and state regulations and requirements; and local health and safety ordinances. Health and safety must be a priority and every member of the nail care team is responsible for upholding these standards and demanding a safe environment for all employees and clients. In order to provide for the health and safety of the client, it is important to understand the safe application and removal of the products as well as gathering information from the client about any allergies or sensitivities they may have to the products.

Proper training on new techniques, supervision and practice are essential to providing the highest level of service to the client. Never attempt to provide a service without the appropriate training and competency. Be sure to meet all state licensing and training requirements and refer any health and safety violations to the proper local and/or state regulatory agencies. Remember that some states have restrictions on certain nail products and procedures that technicians must follow. Adherence to professional standards, industry guidelines and practices will ensure the health and productivity of the personnel, a safe environment, satisfied clients and a thriving business.
