WISCONSIN PHYSICIAN
WISCONSIN MANDATORY OPIOID CME REQUIREMENT UPDATE
Dear Colleagues,
The InforMed Wisconsin Medical Licensure Program is designed to fulfill the mandatory requirement for medical professionals in the state of Wisconsin. Completion of the program satisfies the mandatory two (2) credit hours of responsible opioid prescribing, eight (8) credit hours of the DEA’s new one-time MATE requirement, as well as five (5) elective hours of ethics education. The Wisconsin Medical Examining Board requires all physicians with a current DEA registration to complete continuing medical education (CME) on opioids as a condition of biennial license renewal. Physicians (MD/DO) must complete two (2) credit hours of CME in responsible opioid prescribing prior to December 31, 2025. These courses must be AMA or AOA Category 1, but no longer require specific approval from the Medical Examining Board
