Mississippi Professional License Requirements
MANDATORY CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION FOR LICENSE RENEWAL Physicians (MD/DO) must earn or receive not less than forty (40) hours of Category 1 continuing medical education in a two year cycle as a condition precedent to renewing his/ her license for the next fiscal year. For every licensee with an active DEA registration, five (5) hours must be related to prescribing of medications with an emphasis on controlled substances. Physician Assistants (PA) must complete 100 hours over two years, 40 hours of which must be Category 1, as defined by the ACCME, AAPA, AMA, or AOA. Physician Assistants who are certified by the NCCPA may meet this requirement by providing evidence of current NCCPA certification. As part of this 40 hours, PA’s authorized to prescribe controlled substances must complete at least 5 hours of CME every 2 years related to prescribing of controlled substances. DEA ONE-TIME MATE REQUIREMENT (NEW) Effective June 27, 2023 , renewing DEA-registered practitioners must complete eight (8) hours of one-time training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or substance use disorders.
