The course covers updates to statutes and rules in the Texas Occupations Code, Health and Safety Code, and Administrative Code related to licensing, inspections, continuing education requirements, and ethical standards for funeral directors, embalmers, and funeral establishments. THIS COURSE MEETS YOUR VITAL STATISTICS AND REGULATIONS REQUIREMENT Chapter 3: Texas Vital Statistics - 2026 (Mandatory) [2 CE hours] 20 This course is intended for Texas funeral service professionals seeking to renew their licenses. The course reviews Texas legislation, administrative code, and regulations pertaining to vital statistics, death records, cemeteries, cemetery organizations, lawn crypts, and disinterment permits. Relevant sections of the Texas Health and Safety Code and Texas Administrative Code are summarized with a focus on recent updates to the code. The course satisfies the two continuing education hours in vital statistics requirements and regulations mandated by the Texas Funeral Service Commission (TFSC) before license renewal. Chapter 4: Above Ground: Anatomical Embalming Roles in Society, 2nd Edition [1 CE hour] 31 This course is intended for any death care professional whose field of practice includes embalming, be it for a funeral home or anatomically for an institution of health. The course details the origins, evolution, and modern-day practical application of embalming cadavers, and explores its differences from embalming for funerals. The intermediate course explores the medical versus presentational sides of preservation tactics used by embalmers in the death care industry, as well as its past, present, and future. Chapter 5: Evolving Funeral Practices: Modern Trends [3 CE hours] 36 This course will bring funeral industry professionals up to speed on current trends in the funeral profession, with an emphasis on green funerals, cremation, and burial practices. It examines how the industry has evolved over time and explores which current funeral trends are likely to become tomorrow’s standard practices. The course also delves into the underlying reasons for these shifts in funeral preferences and services. Chapter 6: Modern Restorative Arts and Embalming Techniques, 2nd Edition [3 CE hours] 49 This course is an intermediate course that is designed to provide some updated information on the new trends and advanced procedures for embalming, restorative art, and burial in the funeral profession. Let’s face the fact that much of the funeral industry has been stuck in the past with limited exposure to advancement and ideas of modern modalities to create a better environment. Chapter 7: The Funeral Rule [3 CE hours] 58 Along with an understanding of state and local laws, it is vital for funeral professionals to be familiar with the federal government’s Funeral Rule. This course will assist the funeral provider in complying with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC or Commission) Funeral Rule.
