Lower Body Treatment Injury
Taping Technique
Picture
Quad Strain
Start seated with knee at about 30 degrees of flexion. Use 3 strips. Place along vastus medialis, lateralis, adn rectus femoris. Anchor proximally and stretch distally at 25-50% stretch
Ankle Swelling
Can apply to the medial or lateral ankle joint. Anchor proximally and lay the fingers of the tape distally with no stretch
Ankle Inversion Sprain
Place one strip over the lateral ligaments at 100% stretch in a neutral position. Then place one strip over the peroneals with little stretch, anchoring distally at the 5th met head
CASE STUDY
John is a 45-year-old male who has low back pain with forward bending. At work he does a lot of standing, which sometimes causes sciatica in his right hamstring and calf. John is doing better, but he feels his back is “weak” when he stands for a long time.
Do you think KT could help? • Could use a lumbar H-tape application, applied while he is bending forward • Tape is typically applied proximal to distal to support the muscles
