[3 CE hours] Without proper boundaries and awareness, mental health professionals become vulnerable to burnout and vicarious traumatization. This can result in a risk of therapeutic effectiveness, loss of trust with clients, and possible ethical crossings or violations. This course supports professionals practicing competence, while utilizing self-care and boundaries to minimize burnout while practicing compassion for the clients that they serve. THIS COURSE FULFILLS THE REQUIREMENT FOR PROFESSIONAL BOUNDARIES 16 [4 CE hours] More than 100 years ago, Sigmund Freud’s pioneering work with dreams revealed a hidden world of unconscious thoughts and wishes. Freud’s theories and methods continue to speak to mental health professionals. This course is intended to give clinicians a basic understanding of Freud’s theory of dream interpretation, to explain practical techniques for use with patients, and to describe the therapeutic gains obtainable with dream work. It will begin with brief summations of Freud’s contribution to the search for dreams’ significance and the impact of his development of psychoanalysis. Connections to contemporary dream research are established. Issues surrounding specimens, including Freud’s dreams, the clinician’s own, and those of patients, are discussed. [5 CE hours] This course will provide an overview of the different types of workplace violence, risk factors, emotional, social, and behavioral ramifications of workplace violence, and specific interventions and policies that have been implemented by organizations to address workplace violence and enhance practitioners’ safety.
