Many manufacturers are participating in the booming eyelash enhancements business. Most women don’t have the time or patience to apply fake eyelashes every day. (Some of us barely have enough time to use an eyelash curler!) So, it’s no surprise that lash extensions have become increasingly popular in recent years. Many actresses and music artists are sporting the full-lash look: The Kardashians and Beyoncé have become models for the mink eyelash extensions. Permanent eyelash enhancement options have become available and offer a truly forever solution to the thin eyelash problem. These extensions actually require a transplant or grafting. The good thing about this is that the new lashes will last a lifetime and upkeep is minimal since the lashes fall out by themselves. There is also no need for trimming since it does not follow the three-stage cycle your natural eyelashes have. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN “SEMI-PERMANENT” AND PERMANENT EYELASH EXTENSIONS
With permanent eyelash extensions (as we have already stressed) it is extremely important to have a skilled and licensed professional perform the application. You can look for reviews or ask around. One does not “apply” permanent eyelash extensions per se. The procedure will start with the doctor removing or grafting hair from other areas of the body, usually the lower part of the nape. The doctor then begins the painstaking process of attaching and transplanting each and every hair onto the individual’s eyelids. Although it sounds like a tedious process, the entire procedure takes no more than an hour or so. For the semi-permanent eyelash extensions, the esthetician tapes down the upper and lower lashes and protects the surrounding area with eye shields. The procedure of placing one eyelash extension after another is done. It usually ends with the esthetician curling your lashes for a more finished look. For this reason, this treatment usually takes around two hours. Cost: Permanent eyelash extensions will cost you. A procedure will set you back around $5,000. Semi-permanent eyelash extensions cost a fraction of that. Maintenance: The only upkeep one must worry about when it comes to permanent eyelash extensions is the occasional trimming. When it comes to semi-permanent eyelash extensions, however, one is not allowed to wet the area for a day or so. Additionally, a visit to the salon for a touch-up will be necessary every now and then. It is also advisable to avoid the application of heavy creams and oils to the eye, as these will loosen the adhesive. ○ Additional applications of Latisse will not increase the growth of eyelashes. ○ Upon discontinuation of treatment, eyelash growth is expected to return to its pre-treatment level. 3. Dosage forms and strengths Bimatoprost ophthalmic solution 0.03% mg/mL. 4. Contraindications Latisse is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to bimatoprost or to any of the ingredients. 5. Warnings and precautions a. Effects on intraocular pressure Bimatoprost ophthalmic solution (Lumigan) lowers intraocular pressure (IOP) when instilled directly to the eye in patients with elevated IOP. In clinical trials, in patients with or without elevated IOP, Latisse lowered IOP, however, the magnitude of the reduction was not cause for clinical concern. In ocular hypertension studies with Lumigan, it has been shown that exposure of the eye to more than one dose of bimatoprost daily may decrease the intraocular pressure lowering effect. In patients using Lumigan or other prostaglandin analogs for the treatment of elevated intraocular pressure, the concomitant use of Latisse may interfere with the desired reduction in IOP. Patients using prostaglandin analogs including Lumigan for IOP reduction should only use Latisse after consulting with their physician and should be monitored for changes to their intraocular pressure.
Permanent eyelash extensions are promised to last a lifetime since the hair is actually transplanted into your lids. In “semi- permanent” eyelash extensions, they only attach to the natural lashes in a non-invasive procedure. As the name says, “permanent eyelashes” will last a lifetime; when it comes to semi-permanent lashes, however, they will only last you about a year if maintained properly. The question of whether or not to get permanent or semi- permanent eyelash extensions should always be followed up with “How much upkeep am I willing to put up with?” and “How much money am I willing to pay?” After that, it is absolutely vital to do your research and find a licensed, skilled aesthetician or doctor to perform the procedure. This is to minimize negative reactions or effects. It goes without saying that the permanent eye extension requires a greater amount of training and dedication. Most cosmetologists do not have the time or resources to become certified for this service. The procedure for the semi-permanent eyelash extensions is relatively simple and can be mastered with just a little bit of practice. As long as the eyelash extensions are applied correctly, no harm will come to your natural lashes. Look out for inexperienced technician: Amateur estheticians can mess up the extension applications, creating clumps and in turn damaging the lash. It is extremely important to go to a salon with a reputable reputation. As was previously mentioned, a treatment done for an eyelash extension is pain free. To avoid damaging your lashes, don’t tug your lashes or rub your eyes—these actions could cause the lashes to fall out.
